Curtain Blogs for UAE Homes

Written from what we see on actual installations in Dubai and Sharjah — the heat, the dust, the AC, and the fitting details that decide whether a room works.

Advice for UAE homes, not generic curtain articles

Most curtain advice online is written for a European climate and a European window. It assumes you are trying to keep heat in, that your windows are small and deeply recessed, and that daylight is something to be maximised. In Dubai and Sharjah every one of those assumptions is wrong, and following that advice is how people end up with curtains that look fine and work badly.

These guides come from what our fitters actually see going into homes here: floor-to-ceiling glazing in apartment towers, tall majlis windows in villas, air conditioning that moves dust onto every hanging fabric, and a sun that clears the horizon before six in summer. They cover the decisions that turn out to matter — fitting, fullness, layering, and when to close the curtain — rather than the ones that feel like they should.

Lining, Dimout and Blackout: What the Words Mean

Three words get used as if they were interchangeable, and they are not. One is a construction, one is a performance level, one is an extra layer you add. Knowing which is which stops you paying for the wrong thing.

How Long Do Curtains Take to Make?

The making is rarely the slow part. Almost every delayed curtain order in this market is waiting on fabric, on a decision, or on access to the building.

How Much Do Curtains Cost in Dubai?

Nobody can quote your windows from a blog post. But the things that move the number are the same in every home, and once you know them you can tell a fair quotation from a bad one.

How Much Fabric Do Curtains Actually Need?

A curtain that is the width of the window hangs flat and looks it. Fullness is the number that decides whether a curtain looks expensive — and the one most quotations do not mention.

Curtain buying guides for UAE homes

These guides exist because the questions people ask on a measuring visit are the same ones they searched for the week before: what curtains cost in Dubai, whether blackout or sheer is right, how much fabric a window takes, and why one quote is half another.

Where to start

If you are pricing a job, read what curtains cost in Dubai — it explains fullness, track length and lining, which are the three things that move a quotation. If you are choosing between products, blackout or sheer and track or pole settle most of it. If you have curtains already, fading and cleaning are the two that matter in this climate.

Written from the visits, not from a keyword list

Every guide here answers something a customer actually asked, and none of them is a list of affiliate products. Where a guide names a figure, it points at the estimator rather than printing a price that will be wrong by next season.

Very good work and a fair price. The only reason for four stars is that the first fitting slot was moved by a day. Once they arrived it took under three hours for four windows and they cleaned up after themselves.

Pinch pleat in the formal sitting room. The folds are even across the whole width, which is the part cheap curtains always get wrong. They hung and dressed them properly before leaving.

Good blinds at a good price. I would have liked a wider colour choice in the roller range, but for the blackout function they do exactly what was promised.

They came all the way to RAK for two bedrooms and still gave me the same fixed price. Fitted in one visit.

Sheers for a small apartment on a budget. They were honest that I did not need a heavier fabric for a north-facing room instead of selling me the expensive book.

Fair work for a fair price. Delivery was a day later than first indicated but they called ahead rather than leaving me waiting.

Book 303 jacquard in the majlis. Guests keep asking where they came from. The pattern lines up across the two panels, which I did not think to ask about and they did anyway.

Simple eyelet curtains for a rented flat, and they were happy to do a small job without making me feel like a small customer.

Rollers for the kitchen and the study. Wipeable, compact, and the chain is on the side I asked for. Small thing, but they asked first instead of guessing.

I wanted something light for the majlis that still gave privacy from the street. The chiffon does both, and it does not look cheap up close.

Motorised blinds on the high windows in the stairwell — the ones I could never reach. Set to open at seven and close at sunset. Installed cleanly with no visible wiring.

Third quote I took and the only one that included the track, the fittings and the installation in one number. Nothing was added afterwards.
