Can people see through sheer curtains at night?
Yes, and this catches people out. During the day the outside is brighter than the inside, so a sheer screens the room. After dark with your lights on, that reverses and a sheer gives very little privacy. If the window needs privacy at night, you need a second layer behind it.
How often should sheer curtains be washed?
Once or twice a year is enough for most homes. Chiffon shows dust sooner than heavy fabric does, particularly in a home near a construction site or a busy road, and a cool gentle wash rehung slightly damp will drop the creases out under its own weight.
Do sheer curtains block heat?
Some, but far less than a blackout. A sheer diffuses the light and takes the hard edge off the glare, which makes a room more comfortable to sit in, but it does not stop the solar gain that heats the room. For heat, the sheer is the front half of a pair and the blackout behind it does the work.

What a sheer does that a blind cannot
A blind controls light in one axis — it is up, or it is down, or it is somewhere in between. A sheer diffuses. The light that reaches the room has been scattered by the weave, so it arrives even and soft instead of as a hard bar across the floor. Colour in strong light
