Zebra — also sold as day-and-night or dual roller — is two layers of banded fabric on one tube. Align the opaque bands and the blind closes to near-privacy; offset them and the sheer stripes line up to let light and view through. You control the light with a few centimetres of travel rather than by raising and lowering the whole blind.

Are zebra blinds blackout?
No. Even with the opaque bands fully aligned, light comes through the joins and around the edges. Zebra is a privacy and glare product. Anyone selling it as blackout is setting you up to be disappointed.

The appeal is the middle setting
Most window coverings are binary in practice — open or closed. Zebra gives you a genuinely usable range in between, and because the adjustment is small and quick, people actually use it. In a living room that faces the afternoon sun, that is the difference between a blind that gets adjusted through the day and one that stays shut.
