Where aluminium is simply correct

Kitchens, bathrooms, utility rooms, balconies and any office. Metal does not warp, does not absorb moisture, and can be wiped with a damp cloth including something mildly abrasive if it has picked up cooking grease. In these rooms it is not a compromise against wood — it is the better product.

Glare control at a desk

The reason venetians persist in offices decades after fabric blinds arrived is that no other product lets you keep the daylight while removing the direct beam. Tilt to about 45 degrees away from the desk and the screen is readable, the room is bright, and nobody has to sit in the dark.

Slat sizes and finishes

16 mm and 25 mm slats, in matt white, silver, grey, black and a range of metallics. Perforated slats are available where you want tilt control without fully closing off the view.

The noise question

Metal slats rattle in a draught, and a UAE apartment with the AC running has a constant draught. On a window that stays open, or directly under a vent, this is worth knowing about — a fabric roller does not do it.

Fit-outs, offices and doing a whole floor

Aluminium venetians are what we quote most often for commercial fit-out, and the reasons are unglamorous: they are inexpensive across a lot of windows, they arrive quickly, they survive a cleaning contractor, and a damaged slat can be replaced without taking the blind away. For an office in Business Bay or a clinic in Sharjah covering thirty identical windows, that adds up to a very different total than any fabric product. Commercial orders also move down the volume discount ladder, which is where a floor-sized order stops being priced like a house.

Perforated slats and the middle setting

Where the room is a living room or a bedroom rather than a working space, the warmer option is a wooden venetian in real or faux timber — same directional light control, softer in the room.

Perforated slats are punched with a fine pattern of holes, so even fully closed they hold a soft, even light and a ghost of the view rather than shutting the window off completely. In a deep office floorplate where the window is the only daylight for the desks behind it, that is a genuinely useful thing to specify — you keep the light for the room while the person at the glass keeps their screen readable.
