How We Measure
The measurement is the part that cannot be undone. Fabric cut short cannot be lengthened. This is what our team does in your home, and why it takes the time it does.
Why we do not ask you to measure
You can, and there is a guide here if you want a rough figure before booking. But a made-to-measure curtain is cut to a number, and if that number is wrong the panel is scrap. Taking the measurement ourselves makes it our responsibility rather than yours — which is the point of the free visit.
What we measure
- Track width, not window width. The track runs 15–20 cm past the frame on each side so the curtain can stack clear of the glass. Measuring the window and ordering to it is the single most common mistake.
- Finished drop, in three places. Left, centre, right. Floors and ceilings here are frequently out by a centimetre or more over a wide opening, and a curtain shows it immediately.
- Where the hem should land. One centimetre clear of the floor for a curtain drawn daily, or slightly longer if you want it to break.
What we check that a tape measure will not tell you
- Ceiling construction. Slab, plasterboard, or board over a void — each needs a different anchor. A bracket fixed into board alone will pull out, sometimes months later, taking a piece of ceiling with it.
- Clearance for a double track. Some shallow bulkheads will not take one, and that changes what you can order.
- AC vents. A curtain hung directly under one moves constantly and collects dust fast.
- Wall available for stack-back. This decides the track length, and whether a wave heading is viable at all.
- Whether the wall is square. Frequently it is not, and on a long run that changes where the track can be fixed.
What you get at the end of the visit
A written quotation with the measurements on it, the fabric you chose with its catalogue and shade number, the heading style, the track type, and one total. Nothing verbal, nothing to be confirmed later.
If we get it wrong
If a curtain does not fit the measurements we recorded, we remake it. That is not a warranty claim or a negotiation — it is our error and we carry it.

How curtain measuring works, and why we do it
Measuring is the part of a curtain order that decides whether the result works, and it is the part that is easiest to get wrong from a phone. This page explains what happens on the visit; this section explains why it is not optional.
What gets recorded
Track width rather than window width, finished drop to the floor, what the ceiling is made of, and anything that changes the fixing — a bulkhead, an AC vent above the window, a wall that is not square.
Why we do not ask you to send numbers
Because the mistakes are ours to carry. A drop measured to the sill instead of the floor, or a track measured across the glass instead of past it, produces a curtain that cannot be fixed afterwards. Measuring on site removes that risk from you entirely.
