The motor sits at one end of the track and drives a belt that runs inside it. The lead runners are attached to the belt, and the rest follow, so the curtain moves as one without anyone pulling on the fabric.

A motorised curtain track carries the same curtains as a manual track: wave or pleated, blackout or sheer. The lead runners are clipped to the internal belt and the rest follow, so the curtain opens and closes as one piece and the edges of the fabric are never dragged.
