What the 401 book is for
401 is our chiffon sheer — the light, fluid fabric most people call voile or net. It is doing a completely different job from the three blackout books. A sheer does not darken a room; it takes the hard edge off direct sun so the light arrives even and soft instead of as a bar across the floor, and it screens you from the street during daylight hours.
The book runs in two series. The Plain shades are a smooth, uniform chiffon. The TTL Sable shades carry a fine sand-like texture in the weave that shows when the fabric is backlit, giving the panel a subtle grain rather than a flat wash of light.
The one thing to know before you buy
A sheer works during the day because the outside is brighter than the inside. After dark, with your lamps on and the sky black, that reverses completely and a sheer gives you very little privacy.
