Two curtains, one double track. The chiffon sheer from catalogue 401 hangs at the front and handles the daytime — glare softened, privacy kept, view intact. The blackout from 301, 302 or 303 sits behind it and closes when you want the room dark or when the afternoon sun is at its worst.
It is the single most requested set-up we fit, and once people live with it they rarely go back to a single layer.

Do I need a special track for two curtains?
You need a double track — two channels on one bracket, so the sheer hangs in front and the blackout behind with enough space between them that neither rubs the other. It is included in the price of a layered pair. If you already have a single track, it is replaced rather than added to.
Should the sheer and the blackout match?
They should relate, not match. The sheer is the layer you look at all day, so it usually goes lighter and quieter; the blackout behind it can be deeper without dominating, because you mostly see it at night. Matching them exactly tends to flatten the window rather than dress it.
Is a double layer much more expensive than a single?
It is roughly the cost of the two curtains plus a double track instead of a single. For a 2 by 3 metre window a layered pair works out around AED 1,190 against AED 750 for a blackout alone. What you get for the difference is a daytime setting you will actually use, which is why it is the most common thing we fit.
Which layer should I close during the day?
The sheer alone, in most homes here. It cuts the glare, keeps the room bright and stops the building opposite seeing in, while the blackout sits stacked at the sides ready for the evening or for the hottest part of the afternoon on a west-facing window.
Can I add a sheer later rather than doing both at once?
Yes, provided the track is a double from the start — that is the part that is awkward to add afterwards. Tell us at the visit that a sheer is coming later and we will fit the double track now, which costs very little more than a single and saves replacing it.

Why two layers beats one
A single blackout forces a choice every time you walk into the room: full sun or full dark. There is nothing in between, so in practice people leave it open and squint, or leave it shut and turn the lights on at two in the afternoon. Adding a sheer gives you the middle setting that you actually use most of the day — light in the room, glare gone, nobody seeing in.
The double track
Two curtains need two runs of track, mounted one in front of the other on a single bracket. It is not two separate installations, and it should not be priced like one. What it does mean is a slightly deeper bracket and a little more clearance from the wall or ceiling, which is worth checking before you commit — a very shallow ceiling pocket sometimes will not take a double. We check that at the measuring visit.
Getting the pairing right
The usual mistake is choosing both fabrics to match. They should not match; the sheer is seen constantly and the blackout is seen mostly when closed. A light, neutral chiffon in front will work with almost any blackout behind it, and it keeps the room feeling bright when the blackout is open and stacked at the sides. If you want the blackout to be the statement — a deep colour, or the 303 jacquard — keep the sheer plain so the two are not fighting.
Stack-back, and the mistake that eats your window
When both curtains are open they gather at the ends of the track. That bundle of fabric is called the stack-back, and with two layers it is substantial. If the track stops at the edge of the glass, your curtains will permanently cover 30–40 cm of window on each side. Running the track well past the frame — onto the wall either side — lets both layers pull completely clear of the glass. It costs a little more track and it is the difference between a room that feels open and one that does not.
Heat
The two layers trap a pocket of air between them, and that pocket is a surprisingly effective insulator. On a west-facing window in July the difference between a single blackout and a layered pair is noticeable on your hand held near the glass, and it shows up in how hard the AC has to work in the late afternoon.

This is the arrangement most homes here settle on, and it is worth understanding as a system rather than as two curtains that happen to share a window.
Which layer does what
The sheer sits against the glass and works all day: it diffuses glare, gives daytime privacy and takes the ultraviolet. The blackout sits behind it, stacked back and unused until the evening or the hottest part of the afternoon. Each layer is doing a job the other cannot.
What it needs from the ceiling
Two channels need depth. A shallow bulkhead sometimes cannot take a double track, which is a measuring-visit discovery and the reason it is worth checking before choosing the pairing. Where depth is tight, a wall-fixed double bracket can solve it.
Cost, honestly
You are buying two curtains and a double track, so it is close to twice the fabric. What you get back is a room that works at every hour instead of two. If the budget only stretches to one layer now, fit the double track and add the second later — retrofitting the track is the expensive half.
