Do blackout curtains really block 100% of the light?
The fabric does. What you may still see is light leaking around the edges, and that is a fitting question rather than a fabric one. We run the track wider than the window, add a centre overlap so the pair closes without a gap, and let the curtain fall past the sill. Done that way, the room goes genuinely dark.
Will blackout curtains keep my room cooler?
Noticeably, yes — they stop the direct solar gain that turns your floor and furniture into radiators. The trick is closing them before the sun reaches the window rather than after. Once a room is already hot, the curtain is only holding the line.
What is the difference between catalogues 301, 302 and 303?
301 is a textured weave that hides creases and adds depth. 302 is a flat plain colour that recedes into the wall. 303 is jacquard, with the pattern woven in rather than printed, which is the dressier option for a formal reception.

How dark is blackout, really
Fabric sold as "blackout" ranges from about 85% light exclusion to a genuine 100%. Ours are the full-density weave — hold a panel to a window at midday and you will not see the outline of the frame through it. What you may still see is a thin halo of light around the edges, and that is a fitting problem rather than a fabric one. It is solved by running the track wider than the window, giving the curtain a generous overlap in the centre, and letting the panel fall past the sill instead of stopping at it. We measure for that by default.
Which of the three catalogues suits your room
301 — textured. A visible woven grain that catches the light and hides the small creases every curtain picks up. The safe choice for a living room or majlis where the curtain is a large part of the wall.
302 — plain. Flat, even colour with no pattern. It disappears into a wall rather than competing with it, which is why it is the usual pick for bedrooms and for interiors that already have a lot going on.
303 — jacquard. The pattern is woven in, not printed on, so it holds colour and does not crack or peel with washing. This is the dressier option, and it is what most villa clients choose for the formal reception.
Heat, the AC, and what it costs you
Untreated glass in a Dubai summer is the single largest heat load in most apartments. A blackout curtain does not stop conduction through the glass, but it does stop the direct solar gain — the sunlight that lands on your floor and furniture and turns them into radiators of their own. Rooms we have fitted typically hold temperature long enough that the AC cycles less often through the afternoon. Closing the curtain before the sun reaches the window is what makes the difference; once the room is hot, the curtain is only holding the line.
Living with them
Vacuum with a brush head every few weeks and they will stay fresh for years. Full washing is rarely needed and we recommend dry cleaning for the jacquard so the weave keeps its body. If a panel picks up a crease from storage, hang it and let the weight of the fabric pull it out over a day or two rather than taking an iron to the coating.

Most disappointment with blackout curtains is a fitting problem wearing a fabric costume. The cloth is rarely what lets light in — the edges are.

The four leaks, in the order they matter
- The sides. A track stopped at the glass leaves a permanent strip. Run it 15–20 cm onto the wall each side.
- The centre. Two panels that meet leave a seam of light; two panels that overlap do not.
- The top. Light spills over a face-fixed track unless it sits high and close to the ceiling.
- The hem. A short drop glows along the floor at sunrise.
Colour is not opacity
Our blackout is triple woven rather than coated, so the light-stopping layer is inside the cloth. A cream shade can stop as much light as a charcoal one, and it will not fade as visibly. Pick the shade for the room and let the weave do the blocking.
Heat, not just light
