Pinch pleat — French pleat, if you learned it that way — gathers the heading into deliberate groups of two or three folds, stitched by hand at fixed intervals. Between each group the fabric falls in a clean, unbroken drop. It is the most formal heading we make and the one that reads as tailored rather than merely hung.

What is the difference between double and triple pinch pleat?
The number of folds gathered into each pleat. Double is lighter and more contemporary and uses slightly less fabric; triple is fuller, deeper and more formal, and it is what most people picture when they think of a pinch pleat. On a tall villa window triple holds the scale better; on a modest bedroom window double looks less heavy.
Is pinch pleat good for blackout curtains?
It is the best heading for it. The pleats sit the fabric in a deep, dense column with no flat sections, and the heading itself carries no gaps — unlike eyelet, where light passes over the pole between the rings. Paired with a track run wide of the glass and a centre overlap, it is the darkest result we can give you.
Does pinch pleat cost more?
Yes, modestly. The pleats are formed and stitched by hand rather than gathered onto a tape, so there is more labour in the making, and it typically adds a few working days to the lead time. The fabric quantity itself is much the same as any 2.0× heading.
Do pinch pleat curtains need dressing after they are hung?
Far less than a gathered heading, because the pleats are stitched into shape and stay that way. We dress the folds at installation and they hold. If a curtain has been folded in storage, hanging it and letting the weight pull for a day or two does more than any amount of steaming.
Can pinch pleat curtains be motorised?
Yes — they run on an ordinary track, so a motor carriage suits them without any change to the curtain. Wave is the heading people associate with motorisation, but pinch pleat motorises perfectly well and is the better choice where the room is formal.

Compare with

Double or triple

A double pleat groups two folds; a triple groups three. Triple uses more fabric, sits deeper, and looks noticeably richer on a long drop — it is the standard choice for a villa reception or a formal majlis. Double is lighter and slightly more contemporary, and it suits a bedroom or a room with less ceiling height. On anything under about 2.4 metres of drop the difference is marginal and we would default to double.

Why it holds its shape

Each pleat is stitched, not clipped. The fold is built into the curtain permanently rather than being held by a hook or a tape, so it survives washing, storage and years of daily drawing without needing to be re-dressed. Of everything we make, pinch pleat is the heading that looks the same in year five as it did on installation day.

The best heading for genuine blackout

Because the fabric sits flat against the track at the top of each pleat, a pinch pleat closes the light gap that an eyelet leaves open. Combined with a ceiling-fixed track running past the window on both sides and a centre overlap, this is how you get an actually dark bedroom. If darkness is the goal, this is the heading to ask for.

Hand-finishing

The pleats are set and stitched by our tailors after the panel is cut to your measured drop, which is why this heading carries a slightly longer lead time. It is not a process that can be rushed without it showing at the top of the curtain, where everyone looks.

Where pinch pleat still beats everything else

Formal rooms, and specifically the majlis. A pinch pleat is the only heading that reads as tailored — the pleats are hand-formed and stitched, they hold their shape whether the curtain is open or closed, and they give a window the same finish a good suit has. In a room used for receiving guests, that formality is the point, and it is why the villa clients who look at every heading we make usually come back to this one for the reception and use something plainer in the bedrooms.

Living with a hand-finished heading

Two practical notes that follow from the construction. The pleats are stitched, so the curtain keeps its shape indefinitely without dressing — you are not straightening folds every week the way you might with a loose gathered heading. And it hangs on pin hooks, which set the height precisely: if the curtain is ever rehung on a different track or a different hook type, the drop changes by a centimetre or two and a floor-length curtain will either drag or float. Keep the original hooks with the curtain, or ask us to match them — see hooks and runners.

Before you decide

Worth reading first

Pinch pleat: the heading that holds its shape

A pinch pleat is hand-gathered into groups at the top, so the folds are set into the curtain rather than left to form on their own. That is why it looks the same on day one and in year three.

Where it beats the alternatives

On an uneven ceiling or a wall that is not quite square, a pinch pleat is the most forgiving heading there is — the pleats break the line, so small variations do not read as errors. It also stacks tighter than a wave, which matters when the wall beside the window is narrow.

What it costs in fabric

2.0x fullness is standard: a three-metre track takes six metres of cloth. That is less than a wave and more than a flat panel, and it is the ratio at which the pleats sit properly. Cut it leaner to save money and the groups splay open.

Track or pole

Pinch pleat hangs from hooks, so it works on either — a track where there is no wall above the glass, a pole where you want the hardware visible.

Where it suits the room

Formal living rooms and a majlis, where the curtain is seen from a distance and from seated height. In a bedroom the heading matters less than the blackout and the overlap. Headings explained compares all four.

What pinch pleat curtains cost in Dubai, and what the quote covers

Anyone pricing pinch pleat curtains dubai is really pricing three things: the fabric or material, the making, and the fitting. We quote them as one figure per window rather than as a fabric price with extras arriving later, so the number you approve includes the track or fixings and the installation. Some people search for this as triple pleat curtains uae; it is the same product. Prices move with the size of the opening and, for curtains, with the fullness the heading needs — which is why two quotations for the same window can differ without either being wrong. The price estimator gives you a figure for your own measurements before anyone visits, and the measuring visit itself is free across Dubai, Sharjah and the northern emirates.

Worth knowing if you are comparing suppliers: the same thing is searched for as tailored pleat curtains dubai, so a quote under a different name is often for exactly this product.

They cover Ajman properly, which many Dubai companies do not. No extra travel charge and they arrived on time.

Went for the double layer after seeing the books at home. Sheer during the day, blackout at night, and the two tracks were installed level to the millimetre. Price on the quote was the price I paid.

The consultant brought all four catalogue books to the flat. Seeing the fabric against my own window in daylight completely changed which colour I picked — the one I chose online looked grey in my living room.

I only wanted sheers for the living room. They did not try to upsell me into blackout, which I appreciated. The chiffon softens the light beautifully and the room still feels bright.

Floor-to-ceiling glass on two sides. The sheers cut the glare without making the apartment dark, and the fitters got the drop right to the centimetre above the floor.

Very good work and a fair price. The only reason for four stars is that the first fitting slot was moved by a day. Once they arrived it took under three hours for four windows and they cleaned up after themselves.

Pinch pleat in the formal sitting room. The folds are even across the whole width, which is the part cheap curtains always get wrong. They hung and dressed them properly before leaving.

Good blinds at a good price. I would have liked a wider colour choice in the roller range, but for the blackout function they do exactly what was promised.

Sheers for a small apartment on a budget. They were honest that I did not need a heavier fabric for a north-facing room instead of selling me the expensive book.

Book 303 jacquard in the majlis. Guests keep asking where they came from. The pattern lines up across the two panels, which I did not think to ask about and they did anyway.
